ASSETS:
Has great speed, which he uses effectively to get to the outside of defenders. Owns untapped goal-scoring ability, too. Can really dominate from his off-wing (right).

FLAWS:
Needs to become way more consistent from game to game in order to maximize his scoring potential at the highest level. Also needs more work without the puck.

Talent Analysis:
Etem has an unorthodox skating style but it sure gets him around the ice quickly. He can make plays at high speeds, thanks in large part to the lightning-quick release on his lethally accurate shot. He courted a goal-per-game in his final junior season, proving to be one of the most explosive players in all the CHL. Etem has also proven an effective penalty killer that poses a constant threat to generate a shorthanded goal. He needs to improve his play without the puck and continue to develop his physique.

The Ducks took another chance on Etem - claiming him off Waivers from the Canucks earlier this season before sneaking him down to the Gulls. He got injured in his first game but did manage to get a Power Play goal before doing so. We all know the kind of speed and skill Etem possesses - he just needs to play with line-mates that complement that. His contact ends at the end of this season however so whether the Ducks take another chance on him is another question.

That speed, coupled with his soft hands and knack for the net, make him an extremely dangerous player every time he steps foot onto the ice. Let's face it, he doesn't hold all of the talent in the world, but he will be a great pick-up in the later stages of the first round.

NHL Fanhouse: Emerson Etem is a highly-skilled player with great hands, great speed and is deadly around the net. He gives the opposition fits with his speed and puck-handling ability. Although not overly large at 6'/195lbs, he is strong on his skates and that makes him tough to knock off the puck. These skills make him a factor in every game he plays. Etem is an exciting offensive player and sure to make you come out of your seat. He may need some work in his defensive play, but his offensive skills and speed are hard to ignore and should make him a 1st Round pick in the 2010 Draft.

The Hockey News: The first skates Emerson Etem ever wore were of the in-line variety, but that hasn't stopped him from becoming an explosive skater. A native of Long Beach, California, Etem has been has been compared to Taylor Hall in terms of skating ability. He can't do the things Hall can with the puck, but his speed does lead to offensive opportunities.
"Usually he comes off the wing where he holds the puck wide, gets around the defenseman and cuts to the net," a scout said. "You can just sense when he's on the ice that something is going to happen offensively."
